Job Description
We are looking for a seasoned IT Systems Architect to play a pivotal role in delivering cutting-edge IT systems and products for a prominent submarine build and through-life support programme. This role is integral to ensuring the seamless integration of complex IT systems within the defence sector. As part of a dedicated engineering team, you will use your technical expertise to drive project success, ensuring all systems meet both operational and safety standards, whilst aligning with future technological advancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of technical and functional requirements.
- Architect IT systems that interact seamlessly, ensuring comprehensive systems design and integration.
- Manage and document requirements using industry-standard management tools, ensuring full traceability from concept to implementation.
- Support the integration and commissioning of IT systems, working closely with shipbuilders and other stakeholders.
- Provide expert guidance on design changes, managing change embodiment activities, and maintaining alignment with safety regulations and defence standards.
- Act as a key technical liaison between suppliers and project teams, ensuring deliverables meet stringent contractual requirements.
- Stay informed of emerging IT technologies and trends that could impact future system designs.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Chartered IT Professional accredited by a recognised engineering institution such as BCS or IET.
- Extensive experience with IT systems in defence, maritime, or related industries.
- A thorough understanding of the engineering lifecycle, including experience across various phases of project delivery.
- Strong awareness of product safety and adherence to Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) standards.
- Valid UK Security Clearance (SC).
Preferred Skills/Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of the IT marketplace, including current products and future technology trends.
- Experience supporting system integration and change management in large-scale defence projects.
- Expertise in passing on domain knowledge to enhance team capabilities and grow internal knowledge bases.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of engaging with both technical and non-technical audiences.
